The Suit with a touch of Hawaii

Although I don't wear tailoring as often as I'd like, I still love it. I admire its quality (if it's there), beauty and timeless function and look. And I keep pushing myself to wear it more in a (for me) unexpected way as I wouldn't ever think of it before. Nowadays, my point of view slightly changes (or evolved should you wish) when I try stuff; it's tremendous fun for me.

More knitted shirts, more tieless shirts and more Hawaiian shirts. What? Yes. I wasn't a fan of them for as long as I can remember, but when wearing short-sleeved shirts in the summer is no longer a crime on the blogs of fashionistas, it seems now is the right time to try it.

I could try it with shorts, casual trousers, tailored trousers. But, heck, why not with a suit: I thought when I went into The Owners – Prague-based tailoring atelier – for a talk with Hugo Jacomet and Sonya Glynn from Parisian Gentleman.

I mean, a year ago, I wouldn't even think to wear a combination like this, but now it's a different story as my inner Pavarotti is awakened. By the way, he did love to wear Hawaiian shirts in his free time when smoking was set to be aside.

I'm not sure what others would say - maybe there were some shush talks in the corner of the room, I don't know about, but I did like it a lot. Retro feeling, a roomy fit of the shirt, and a few buttons undone caused that I felt free and very comfortable. Also, as the suit is light-coloured, it was smart to combine it with lighter blue than a punch in navy. It's more in harmony.

I like it so much that I decided to do a post about it, and the point is to show you that if you wear suits in a relaxed way, it can give you more opportunities to wear them and also enjoy them more than "just" with a simple shirt. That, of course, doesn't mean not wearing a tailored shirt with suits again; classic will always remain classic.

I got this shirt from Brooks Brothers outlet together with other OCBD with green stripes. They're closing down the franchise in the Czech Republic, which only makes sense as I believe it was a bit overpriced compared to other countries. However, it would be a pity to not bring home some stuff in sales up to 70%.

A few words to end this post – I think all of us writing about menswear would agree that tailoring needs to have a better perception of the public. I believe wearing it not only in a traditional way (shirt, tie, rollneck) but also in a playful way (knitted t-shirt, casual shirts and others) could be one of the keys.

I would just encourage all to try it out and see. For casual moments or connect it with tailoring, it's not that bad. And if the Hawaiian print is something you don't want to try badly, you may always go with a short-sleeved Cuban collared plain shirt like Michal from The Owners is wearing here.

Let me know how you like it!

Denis
